Slices in, pattern out
It finds the Simpler after it and shows the sample with its slices. Not sliced yet? 1/16, 1/8 or Transients slices it for you. A Drum Rack from Slice to Drum Rack works too.
Max for Live · Ableton Live 12
Put Chopsmith Sequencer in front of a sliced Simpler and it plays the slices as a pattern, locked to Live's grid. Rechop it MPC-style, roll it, swing it, then write it to a clip.
Mac · Ableton Live 12.4+ with Max for Live · one licence for 3 Macs
No Chopsmith yet? Get both for $49 instead of $68.

In order, Reverse, an MPC-style Flip, Euclidean hits, Stutter rolls or Half-time. Press Dice for another take of the same idea.
Click a slice to pick it, click steps to place it, drag a step up or down for another slice. 8 to 64 steps, from 1/8 notes to 1/32s.
Every step has its own velocity and the chance it plays each time round, so a pattern breathes instead of looping the same way.
Notes are played by Max itself, locked to Live's transport wherever you start. Swing from straight to a triplet feel, and Gate for how long each slice rings.
Happy with it? Write clip puts the pattern into a MIDI clip on the track, ready to edit and arrange. The pattern is also saved with your set.
Made to follow Chopsmith: cut a tempo-locked loop from a song, then flip it here.
The download is the full Sequencer. Without a licence key it's the demo: every pattern plays and you can edit everything, and Write clip and saving the pattern with your set ask for a key. Buy one and paste it in; no reinstall needed.
Drag Chopsmith Sequencer.amxd onto a MIDI track, in front of a Simpler.
